View From Above Nürnberg: Our Newest Touring Exhibition Has Landed

ViewFromAbove Nürnberg

After more than 30,000 visitors in just two cities, our space photography exhibition View From Above has opened its next chapter – this time in the heart of Nuremberg.

From now until 26 April 2026, we invite visitors of all ages to step directly from the pedestrian zone on Breite Gasse 91 into orbit and experience Earth through the eyes of NASA astronaut Terry Virts.

For us at Ready to Show Art, Nürnberg is more than “just” the next stop on a tour. It is the point where our modular exhibition concept, our wall and light infrastructure and our digital tools come together to create a fully developed, family friendly flagship show.

A proven concept – now in the middle of Nuremberg

We designed View From Above from the very beginning as a touring exhibition:

  • modular walls and lighting that fit into different buildings
  • a content concept that works in museums, former retail spaces and public venues
  • a digital audio guide that can be updated and localised from city to city

After successful runs in Graz and Augsburg and more than 30,000 visitors, we now bring the exhibition to a high footfall location in Nuremberg’s city centre.

Why Nuremberg?

Nuremberg combines several things we look for as a travelling exhibition organiser:

  • a strong regional identity and a curious local audience
  • a compact, walkable city centre, ideal for spontaneous visits
  • a growing appetite for new cultural formats beyond the classic museum

The building in Breite Gasse 91 – a former fashion store with three floors – is a perfect match for our Ready to Show Art infrastructure: high ceilings, open floor plans and the possibility to shape the space completely with our Mila-wall system and light concept.

What visitors experience at View From Above Nürnberg

Earth as you have never seen it before

At the heart of the exhibition are more than 140 large format photographs and videos taken by Terry Virts during his time on the International Space Station (ISS).

Visitors walk through three floors of:

  • glowing cityscapes at night
  • hurricanes and thunderstorms seen from above
  • rivers, deserts, glaciers and mountain ranges that look like abstract paintings
  • intimate scenes from daily life on the ISS

Every floor has its own “chapter” – from the first overview of our planet to everyday routines in zero gravity and finally to the fragile beauty of the thin blue atmosphere that protects us.

A space exhibition for the whole family

From the beginning, we designed View From Above as an experience that works for the entire family:

  • children are fascinated by the colours, the scale of the images and the feeling of “floating” above Earth
  • teenagers recognise cities and landscapes they know from the ground – now seen in a completely new way
  • adults and grandparents get a mix of science, aesthetics and emotion without needing any prior knowledge

All texts and stories are written in clear, accessible language. You don’t need a technical background or a passion for formulas – curiosity is enough.

scan.art audio guide: storytelling without devices

One of the key elements of the exhibition is our digital audio guide, powered by scan.art – our long term technology partner.

Instead of renting audio devices, visitors simply use their own smartphone:

  1. Open the web link at the entrance
  2. Point the camera at any photo or exhibit
  3. The guide recognises the image
  4. With one tap, the original commentary by Terry Virts starts playing

This has several advantages:

  • no app download, no login, no queue for devices
  • Terry’s voice makes each image personal – you hear exactly what he saw and felt in that moment in space
  • the guide is available in multiple languages and can be expanded with new content over time

For us as organisers, the scan.art audio guide has proven to be a key success factor at every stop of the tour. Visitor feedback shows that the combination of large format images and personal audio stories significantly increases the emotional impact of the exhibition.

Ready to Show Art in practice: how we build Nürnberg in days, not months

Modular walls, flexible layout

With Ready to Show Art, we specialise in turning empty buildings into professional exhibition venues in a very short time.

For View From Above Nürnberg we use our modular wall system to:

  • define three clear exhibition levels
  • guide visitor flow intuitively from floor to floor
  • create intimate viewing distances for smaller works and big open vistas for panoramic shots

Because our infrastructure is reusable, we can install, de-install and reconfigure the exhibition in different cities while keeping a consistent quality standard.

Light, sound and orientation from one hand

Beyond the walls, Ready to Show Art provides:

  • a custom lighting concept that makes the colours of Earth images stand out without reflections
  • a subtle sound atmosphere that supports the feeling of being “inside” the ISS
  • clear wayfinding and signage, from the city entrance to the ticket desk and through the floors

For building owners, city partners and sponsors this means:
You get a complete, ready-to-run exhibition package – content, infrastructure, technology and operations – from one experienced team.

Why View From Above is a strong choice for cities and partners

From the perspective of a travelling exhibition organiser, View From Above hits several important criteria:

  1. Broad target group: families, tourists, schools, space and photo enthusiasts
  2. High educational value: climate, geography, technology and international cooperation presented in an accessible way
  3. Strong media hook: “NASA astronaut exhibition in city centre” works very well in press, radio and social media
  4. Flexible runtime: several months on site, allowing long term marketing and group sales
  5. Adaptable to different spaces: museums, historic halls, shopping centres or former department stores

For Nuremberg, this means a new cultural anchor in the inner city and an additional reason for locals and visitors to spend time and money in the centre – even on cold or rainy days.
